Chrysler Repair in Royal Oak, MI

Chrysler shares its engines and electronics with Dodge and Jeep, so it shares the fault list. The Pacifica and the 300 are what we see most, and both are well understood.

  • Pentastar rocker and lifter diagnosis
  • Electrical faults traced before parts are bought
  • Minivan and family vehicle specialists by volume
  • Limited lifetime warranty on most repairs

Known Patterns

What brings a Chrysler in

The same short list as the rest of the group, which means the diagnosis is usually quick.

A tick or a cylinder specific misfire on a 3.6

Pentastar rocker arm and lifter wear. Well documented, and considerably cheaper handled while it is still a noise rather than after it has been driven on.

Oil or coolant leaking at the rear of the engine

The plastic oil cooler housing warps and leaks. There is an updated part, so this is a known repair rather than an investigation.

Electrical symptoms that do not belong together

The TIPM power module has a reputation across this group. Plenty of faults blamed on it are actually grounds or connectors, so it gets tested rather than replaced on suspicion.

Sliding doors or liftgate misbehaving on a Pacifica

Motors, cables and switches on the power doors are a common wear item on a family vehicle that uses them constantly. Usually a component rather than the whole system.

Worth knowing

Some Chrysler electrical faults come from one box

The Totally Integrated Power Module sits under the hood and switches most of the car's high current circuits. When it starts to fail the symptoms look mechanical and unrelated to each other: a fuel pump that will not prime, wipers that run on their own, a horn that sounds at random. Chasing those one at a time is how people spend real money without fixing anything, which is why we test the module before replacing parts it controls.

Family Vehicles

A Pacifica lives a harder life than the mileage suggests

Most Chrysler work here is a Pacifica or a 300, and the Pacifica in particular is a vehicle doing a job. School runs, loaded trips and constant short journeys are harder on an engine and a transmission than the odometer implies, and the sliding door mechanisms, rear climate system and power liftgate all see use that a sedan never gives them.

The engine and electronics are shared with Dodge and Jeep, so the fault list is familiar and the diagnosis is usually quick. Where a Chrysler differs is in everything bolted around it, and we check the doors, the liftgate and the rear climate on anything that comes in for something else, because those are what leave a family stranded at the school gate.

Questions

Chrysler questions

Is the Pentastar engine reliable?
Broadly yes, with two known items: rocker and lifter wear, and the plastic oil cooler housing. Both have well established fixes, and both are much cheaper attended to early.
My power sliding door has stopped working. Is that a big job?
Usually not. It is normally a motor, cable or switch rather than the whole assembly. It gets diagnosed as a system so you are not paying for parts that were fine.
What is a TIPM?
The integrated power module that handles much of the vehicle's electrical distribution. It is a known weak point on this group, but it also gets blamed for faults that are really a bad ground. Testing costs far less than a module.
Do you service the Pacifica hybrid?
Yes for the conventional systems, brakes, suspension, steering, cooling and diagnostics. We will tell you plainly if something falls to a dealer rather than taking the job and finding out.
