Auto Repair in Birmingham, MI

Most Birmingham drivers come to us at the same moment: the factory warranty has just run out and the dealer's first out of warranty quote has just landed. The work does not have to happen there, and it does not have to cost that.

The Drive Down

Straight down Woodward from Maple

From Birmingham it is one road south. Woodward down past 14 Mile and Normandy, and we are at 29444 on the left as you come into the north end of Royal Oak. It is a short enough run that people regularly leave a car with us and get picked up rather than arranging a loaner.

The cars we see from Birmingham skew newer, and that changes what a shop needs in order to be useful. A late model vehicle is a network of control modules, and half of what goes wrong is a calibration, a registration or a communication fault rather than a mechanical failure. A shop without the right equipment cannot touch that, which is how people end up believing the dealer is the only option.

We are set up for it. Factory level scan capability rather than a code reader, and subscriptions to manufacturer service information for the vehicles we work on. Battery registration so a new battery actually charges correctly. Steering angle sensor calibration after an alignment. Electronic parking brake retraction, transmission adaptive relearns, module programming. The work that people assume requires a dealer, done here, without the dealer's labor rate.

Instead of the Dealer

What changes when you leave the dealer network

Your factory warranty stays intact

A manufacturer cannot require dealer servicing to keep a new car warranty valid. Federal law is explicit about it. Keep the receipts, which we provide, and you are covered. Repairs actually under warranty still go back to the dealer, and we will tell you when that is the case.

The labor rate is not the dealer's

Same diagnostic capability, same quality of part, materially different hourly rate. On a job of any size that is most of the difference in the final number.

You speak to a technician, not a service writer

Nobody is relaying your question to a back room and relaying an answer out. If you want to know what the scan data actually said, we will show you the screen.

Parts chosen rather than defaulted

Original equipment where it matters, and the supplier who actually manufactures for the brand where that is the same part in a different box. We will explain which one you are getting and why.

A recommendation you can check

Measurements written down and old parts kept. The advice is something you can verify rather than something you have to trust.

Limited lifetime warranty on most repairs

For as long as you own the vehicle, which is longer than most dealer repair warranties run.

★★★★★

I have had multiple visits and a variety of services completed. I received prompt service, kindness, professionalism, even tasteful humor (via JOE) and thorough assessments from their service team. The property is clean, offering a warm welcoming atmosphere. Always greeted the same, and they even provide a nice, peaceful waiting area with light refreshments. I recommend them. I believe the gentlemen I have encountered are Joe and Egor (Igor). They have tremendous customer service etiquette. I will return soon, unfortunately, but fortunately. S. McClendon

Out Of Warranty

What to do when the factory warranty ends

This is the point where the cost of owning a newer car changes shape. Handled well it is the cheapest stretch of that car's life.

  1. Get a full independent inspection

Before anything needs doing. A complete condition report at the moment the warranty ends tells you what you actually own and what is coming, and it costs nothing here.

  2. Find out what the maintenance schedule really requires

Dealer service menus often bundle items the manufacturer does not require at that interval. We will go through the actual schedule for your vehicle and tell you which line items are real.

  3. Deal with the deferred items first

Things that were noted but never done under warranty tend to be the first to become expensive. Clearing that list early is nearly always cheaper than waiting.

  4. Set a real interval for the fluids nobody mentions

Transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant and differential oil are where lifetime fill claims quietly become expensive. These are the services that decide whether a car reaches high mileage well.

  5. Keep the records

Written history, kept on file here and given to you. It protects any remaining coverage, it makes future diagnosis faster, and it is worth real money when you sell the car.

Questions

Birmingham questions

How far are you from Birmingham?
A straight run south on Woodward from Maple. We are at 29444 Woodward Ave in Royal Oak, on the north end of town.
Will servicing here void my new car warranty?
No. A manufacturer cannot require that servicing happens at a dealer in order to keep a factory warranty valid. Keep the receipts, which we give you, and you are covered. A repair genuinely under warranty still goes back to the dealer and we will say so.
Do you have the equipment for a late model car?
Yes. Factory level scan capability and manufacturer service information, which is what allows module programming, calibrations, battery registration and adaptive relearns to happen here rather than being referred out.
Can you reset the service reminder properly?
Yes, including resetting the correct service item rather than clearing the whole counter, and registering a new battery so the charging system treats it as new.
Do you use original equipment parts?
Where it matters, yes. In many cases the original equipment part and the branded aftermarket part come off the same production line, and we will tell you which situation you are in rather than defaulting to the expensive option.
Is the diagnostic fee applied to the repair?
Diagnostic time is quoted up front so there is no surprise. Talk to us about how it applies on the job in question, and the repair estimate itself is always free and written.
Can I leave the car and get picked up?
Yes, and many Birmingham customers do given the short drive. There is also 24 hour drop off if our hours do not suit.
