Infiniti Service
Infiniti Repair in Royal Oak, MI
Infiniti is Nissan with more equipment, so it inherits both the strong VQ engine and the transmission conversation. Which one you need to worry about depends entirely on the model.
- Straight answers on CVT condition
- VQ timing chain diagnosis
- Dealer level tooling, independent rate
- Limited lifetime warranty on most repairs
Known Patterns
What an Infiniti needs watching for
Split between the engine and, on some models, the transmission.
A rattle at startup on a VQ V6
Timing chain and guide wear. The VQ is a strong engine and this is its known age related item, far cheaper caught early.
Transmission shudder or hesitation
On the CVT equipped models this needs an honest assessment rather than a hopeful one. Correct fluid service helps some and will not save others.
Oil consumption climbing with mileage
Known on some of these engines. We measure it over a documented interval so the conversation is about a number.
Suspension noise and uneven tire wear
Bushings, links and struts at mileage. Ordinary wear that Michigan roads accelerate, and it takes the alignment with it.
Nissan Underneath
A strong engine, and two things to watch around it
Infiniti runs Nissan engineering, which is mostly good news. The VQ V6 in the G and Q models is a genuinely strong engine that will run a long way, and parts and service information are readily available. The two things worth watching are the timing chain tensioners on higher mileage examples, which announce themselves as a rattle on a cold start, and oil consumption once they have covered serious distance.
The crossovers are a different conversation, because the QX60 uses a continuously variable transmission that wants its fluid kept up and does not forgive being ignored. We check fluid condition and read adaptation data on those as a matter of course, rather than waiting for a shudder to make the decision for you.
Worth knowing
There is no timing belt to replace
The VQ series V6 under most Infinitis is chain driven, so the interval service that owners of belt driven engines budget for simply does not exist here. What does exist is chain guide and tensioner wear at higher mileage, and it announces itself as a rattle on a cold start that quiets once oil pressure comes up. A chain gives plenty of warning and then very little.
